Step 4: Add Related Objects (Optional)

  • Click Click to relate another object if you want to pull in fields from related objects.

  • Define the relationship:

  • Each "A" record must have at least one related "B" record (only shows parent records with children).

  • "A" records may or may not have related "B" records (shows all parent records, whether they have children or not).

You can link up to four objects in total (Primary + three related objects).

Click Save when you're done.

Step 5: Customize the Report Layout

  • After saving, click Edit Layout.

  • Drag and drop fields from the Fields Panel into sections to define what fields are available in reports.

  • You can create new sections, rename fields, and hide sections if needed.

  • Click Lookup Fields if you want to add fields from lookup-related objects not directly included.

Step 6: Save and Deploy

  • Save your layout.

  • When you're ready to make the report type available to all users, set its status to Deployed.

  • Use the Actions menu next to the report type to Start Report (test it) or view Details.

Notes

  • You need the Manage Custom Report Types permission to create or edit custom report types.

  • Field-Level Security applies users only see fields they have permission to view.

  • You can create a custom report type even on objects you don't have direct access to, but fields will be limited by your access.

Limitations

  • Cannot change the Primary Object after creation.

  • A custom report type can include a maximum of four object levels.

  • Newly created custom report types might take a few minutes to appear when creating reports.
